I finally hit the sweet spot in QGIS where I have my main workstation loaded with QGIS 2.6.1 and my laptop has the upcoming QGIS 2.8. I’ve been running 2.8 for a while. It’s been tempting to load it for everything BUT – I’m using it so much I don’t want to take the chance I will mess up some stuff for a client with beta software.
About this time I usually run with “new fun things” in QGIS 2.8.
Today’s post are on Multiple styles. Usually in QGIS I end up duplicating a layer and restyling it. I have points that have a couple of things I want to symbolize. Style the layer and duplicate and style it again. So I’ve that layer in twice just for the simple pleasure of having it style for plots/clients/whatever.
Well….
Right Click on your layer > go to style > and add a new style and symbolize away. Once you are done, add a new style and Change it. You can remove them, rename them, and copy them. Multiple Styles for one layer. Save it as a qlr (Layer Definition file) file and save it in case anything happens to your qgs file. It would be exceedingly similar to saving a lyr file in ArcGIS.
Groundbreaking? You could say yes or no – but it makes your cartographic life a lot easier with this piece of software. I’m churning out some nice maps for clients these days with qgis.
