Introduction to QGIS and PostGIS – February 2 and 3 2016

Dec 11, 2015 | Atlanta, FGDC, Georgia, postgis, QGIS

WHAT TWO CLASSES?

Yes – QGIS and PostGIS in one event. This one is in Atlanta just outside Decatur Georgia. Why team up QGIS and PostGIS into a two day event? Why not – it’s a great combination and for those of you saying “I WANT DO DITCH (insert commercial software here) BUT I DON’T HAVE ALTERNATIVES” – well – here’s your shot at seeing an open source combination/alternative that works.  I’m going to be doing Day 1 which is QGIS and Spatial Focus will be doing Day 2 which is PostGIS. Both Companies use this everyday in their consulting work and we know what works and what doesn’t….and how well it can play with your ESRI Software. It is an ESRI world out there so we won’t ignore that aspect of it.

So for those of you just tuning in here is the two day event:

QGIS:

QGIS is an open source GIS Desktop program. It is flexible, stable, and can be used to help you edit and create GIS data from Shapefiles, to spatialite databases, to PostGIS tables:

We will cover in the class:

  • Interface and installation
  • Symbology
  • Map Production
  • Editing
  • Plugins
  • Compare functionality with ArcGIS throughout the class

PostGIS:

PostGIS/Postgresql is the open source spatial database to support your enterprise.  It is the most mature option for a back end database to open source GIS desktops like QGIS.  This workshop is built for database beginners.  It will start with a “naked database” and go through to a working model.

We’ll explore enterprise opportunities in PostGIS, including:

  •    Loading vector data from shapefiles, geodatabases or spreadsheet
  •    Address data
  •    Offline editing
  •    Backup and maintenance
  •    Setting up permissions for workgroups

Class Details:

  • Date February 2nd and 3rd 2016
  • Cost: $325 per day or $600 for two days
  • Location: 318 Patterson Avenue
    Scottdale, GA 30079
    Phone: 404.378.0989
    Fax: 404.806.6257
