OPenStreetMap US Conference June 8-9 2013

Feb 10, 2013 | Crowdsourcing, Education, Open Source GIS, Open Street Map, Training

I’m not even going to pretend to rewrite the announcement – I’m going to shamelessly copy it and link you back to OpenStreetMap.us….but – I will say this. The conference kept occurring in the fall and we were butting up against the international conference. So a command decision was made to move it and to San Francisco it did move. My goal right now is to get North River Geographic Systems out there.

Main Conference: Saturday + Sunday, June 8 + 9

Our main conference will feature a series of community-led sessions on OpenStreetMap case studies, related technology, mapping parties, ideas and tools to help us improve the map, and much more. Check out last year’s schedule for an idea of what’s in store.

In the coming weeks we’ll issue a public call for proposals asking the community to submit session ideas. Got something exciting to share about OpenStreetMap? We’d love to have you as a speaker. Watch this blog, the [talk-us] list, and @sotmus on Twitter for updates.

State of the Map US is designed to bring together the many individuals, organizations, and companies who make up the OpenStreetMap community – so expect to reconnect with and meet new mappers through hallway conversations, coffee breaks, and evening drinks and social events.

Workshops: Friday, June 7

We’ll lead into the conference with a day of workshops designed to introduce newcomers to mapping and using OpenStreetMap data, and get them ready for the full conference. And having that many people in town is also a great excuse for an evening social event.

Hack Day: Monday, June 10

At the last conference, many of us found the need for an extra day to get together, sit down, and get work done. On Monday June 10, we’ll provide a space to do this and food to fuel us for a day of hacking, plotting, improving today’s tools and inventing tomorrow’s – you name it.

Community scholarships

We want State of the Map US to be accessible to all community members. To help we’ll be offering scholarships for contributors who need an extra hand to make it to San Francisco.

Help with the event

We’re looking for volunteers to help with the conference, from speccing it out to helping with local outreach to manning the registration table. To get involved, join the State of the Map US planning group.

See you in San Francisco!

We’re looking forward to seeing you at State of the Map US 2013 in San Francisco. Stay tuned here, to the [talk-us list]@sotmus for the call for proposals, scholarship information, and other announcements and updates.

It made me sad. I'm working on a project involving 911 data and it's made me do quite a bit of thinking. The short story on this is it's not in Tennessee. I'm taking data in it's raw form and shoving it into that state's NG911 format. So I have about half of it...
