Since 2013, NRGS has been working with the territorial government of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In 2013, we joined a team consisting of AppGEO and Spatial Focus to work on the Street Addressing Initiative. We worked with both companies as well as the Territory to develop a Standard USPS addressing system for the citizens of the islands. We worked on St. Thomas, St. John. and St. Croix. We worked for approximately 5 months creating digital data and assigning address points using QGIS, PostGIS, and Fulcrum.
In 2017 we volunteered to help with the Post Hurricane damage assessment. We used imagery from the US Federal Government as well as data from multiple sources to assign a damage category to structures on the islands. In total we classified 48380 structures to help with island recovery.
