Managing forestland can be a daunting task.
We had the opportunity several years ago to start using PostGIS/QGIS/Geoserver/Fulcrum in managing approximately 40,000 acres of timber for a client. From that we learned what works, doesn’t work, and processes that are a value add to your activities.
Using a wide variety of Open and Closed Source tools we provided a platform to allow for multiple staff to access a database and produce maps.
- Field work was gathered by mobile devices or paper maps if necessary.
- Data was entered and updated in an enterprise spatial database.
- Maps were produced.
- LIDAR was utilized.
It was a very cost effective and efficient way to manage a large amount of timber. This process can be customized for your timber management activities.
