PostgreSQL/PostGIS is our preferred backend database for open source applications. Generally when we transition clients off ESRI products onto Free and Open Source Applications for Geo – we use PostgreSQL/PostGIS as the backend.

We’ve been using PostgreSQL/PostGIS over the last 10 years with no problems. Forestry clients, government, and telecom clients have all benefited from the stability and robustness of the database.
