Always try to have fun.
I often wonder exactly how I end up meeting a lot of people. A lot I met over twitter (and if you ever wonder the value of that arena I would say that would be the #1 thing). I run into a lot of these guys at conferences and then we find out we are part of other organizations….ultimately the GIS world gets a bit smaller.
I met Ryan Bowe at the Providence GISpro conference – we had been talking for a while over twitter and email. I’m a part of ASPRS as is she….URISA….who knows where else we will bump into each other. She has a passion which is metadata among other things. My biggest exposure to metadata was a 10ish year team I was on when I was with the feds. I think in that 10 years we started the team worrying how we were going to “do” metadata and ended the team with “we still can’t figure out how”. It’s a longer story that doesn’t needs mentioning.
Ryan is going to be adding stories/blogs posts/information up here. We’ve gotten in this quirky work mode which is going to be explained in more detail as we revamp the website and do a few more things. Metadata fits in with what we are doing.
So we have the obligatory bio for Ms Bowe:
Ryan Elizabeth Bowe, GISP works for Photo Science, a Quantum Spatial Company, in Lexington, Kentucky. She has a passion for metadata and she has created tens of thousands of metadata files for geospatial datasets, some of which she acquired, edited, documented and delivered to clients. Co-author of “Avoiding Last Minute Metadata Misery†in ArcNews Summer 2012, she stays active in her profession as a URISA Vanguard Cabinet Steering Committee member; a Young Professional Committee member of ASPRS; and a GIS Certification Institute’s Geographic Information System Professional application reviewer. In November 2013, she received URISA’s Young Professional of the Year award.
So without further adieu – Ryan Bowe. You may remember her from such films as “Metadata – Delicious but Deadly” and “Young Professionals Vs The Old Guys: The road to victory”. Read what she has to say. Ask questions.
Have fun.
