Intro to QGIS 2.4 – Athens Georgia – October 9th 2014

Sep 10, 2014 | FOSS4G, QGIS

So – post Georgia Geospatial Conference I’m going to do the Intro to QGIS Class here in Athens. So mark your calendars for October 9th 2014. It has squat to do with the conference – but – since you might be here…….

Email me for registration/details/anything in particular.  Class cost is $325.

Length of workshop: Approximately 8 hours but can vary depending on attendees.

What to expect from this workshop: Learning new software can be intimidating for some especially if you are used to a certain product that you have been using for years. (Anyone remember switching from ArcView GIS 3.x to ArcGIS Desktop 8.x?) Or perhaps you are new to GIS and looking for an affordable, user-friendly alternative to other popular GIS software. This is an introduction to QGIS that will get you familiar with the interface and many tools and features that will assist you with viewing, editing, analyzing, creating, managing, and serving GIS data in a variety of formats. Though QGIS is definitely a powerful tool to add to your GIS toolkit, it has some limitations and challenges that will be discussed in this workshop.

At the end of this workshop, you should have a good understanding of what QGIS consists of, pros and cons when using it, and feel informed to make your own decisions about how to incorporate QGIS into your project workflows.

Who might benefit from this workshop: Veteran GIS professionals, new GIS users, and anyone in between would benefit from this class.

Level of experience required for this workshop: Some prior knowledge/understanding/education in GIS is highly recommended. While not absolutely necessary, some of the terminology and concepts discussed may diminish the experience and overall usefulness of the workshop. However, if you are new to GIS and would like to attend this workshop, please contact us in advance to discuss how we can help you become workshop-ready!

I don't know if I would label this exercise as fun but I've learned alot. I don't do a ton of data collection these days. At one time a few years ago I was out in the field with Fulcrum, a laptop, and sketchy internet for days at a time. These days I'm hardly ever...
