Georgia URISA Luncheon March 12th 2013

Mar 5, 2013 | GA URISA

This month’s luncheon topic is sure to get the wheels turning in your brain. How would you take what you know about GIS and apply it to an Airport?

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world’s busiest airport, serving an average of 240,000 traveling passengers per day and managing over 2,000 flight operations every 24 hours. The airport’s infrastructure, from the passenger terminals to the runways and taxiways, is under enormous stress and requires constant inspection and maintenance. Tracking this infrastructure and managing maintenance and improvement was always a highly decentralized process and there was no way for one operations and maintenance groups to manage this process in real time. With the introduction of new mobile GIS technology the H-JAIA GIS group is now able to build and deliver mobile GIS applications that allow the various business units across the airport to identify, monitor and respond to infrastructure issues in real time.
