North River Geographic Systems, Inc is a consulting company in the southeastern US. We work primarily with Free and Open Source Software for Geoinformatics (FOSS4G). The toolsets we use revolve around:
- Fulcrum (Not Open Source but it has a lot of Open Source DNA).
For over 12 years NRGS has provided consulting, migration, training and support services for clients. We have worked locally in the TN Valley and we’ve worked in the Caribbean.
I’m the owner, Randal Hale
This all started with a rock collection at 6. Flash forward a few years and I’m graduating from college with a degree in Geology. My first “real job” was working production mapping/data collection for the federal government. Flash forward and it’s 25+ years later and here I sit consulting.
This was a hobby 12+ years ago, but soon it grew into a full time job. It’s not always been easy as a small business but it has been interesting. When this started I aligned myself with one of the leading companies in GIS. In 2014, I made a break with that company and started rebuilding the business around Free and Open Source Software for Geoinformatics (FOSS4G).
NRGS follows three simple things:
- Data is everything: Your data is the most important part of your geospatial endeavors. More than the tools you need to understand what you have and what you can do with it.
- Standards Based Tools: Our Tools revolve around geospatial standards. QGIS, PostGIS/PostgreSQL, Geoserver, and Fulcrum provide very flexible cost-effective tools for us and our clients.
- Answers that are well documented.
We’d love to work with you and solve problems. In 12+ years I’ve worked with:
- Forestry Firms
- Territorial Governments
- County 911s
- Private Companies
- Non Profits
- State/County Governments
These companies have been scattered from the Caribbean to Canada.
