So way back in Randy’s younger days he attended church. Yes – it happened. I also liked to walk. I fell into a bit of a trap in the early 80′s where we combined walking and meeting the neighborhood around the church. We hit the pavement and tried to drum up business. During that time frame it was either walk or cold call people. So we walked and handed out bulletins and hoped more people came to church..and hopefully ignored the hooligans that made up the youth…and I was one of the hooligans. What does all that have to do with GIS?
Georgia URISA has another meeting coming up February 12th in Fayetteville GA (250 Lanier Avenue East, Fayetteville, GA, 30214)
…and we’re covering some new ground (in my opinion) – GIS in the ministry:
Speaker David Cooper will discuss how GIS can play an important role in the life of the local church. GIS can be used to plan visitations, bus routes and Vacation Bible School canvassing. Using census data he will show how GIS can also be used to plan the location of a new church based on the demographics of the area.
Yes – that would have kept me from annoying the neighborhood.

I’ve never considered using GIS to help the church reach the community. Excellent!
